Welcome to Elder Class  - Mrs Williams

Hi All,

The weather is definitely improving and we will soon see the Summer of 2021 where things are hopefully improving in many ways. Please have a read through the Summer Term  letter and curriculum overview to see all the exciting things we have planned for this term.

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch by telephoning the school office.  The support you give is essential for your child's progress and the closer we can work together the better it will be for them.  If you are on Twitter, please follow @Elder_Sankey to see regular updates.

Kind regards

Mrs Williams

Useful Documents

The children will develop their maths skills following the White Rose Maths. They will improve their understanding of decimals and percentages, algebra, ratio and scaling.

This term we will begin by reading Robert Swindell's book 'Room 13' and the children will look closely at hos use of language and punctuation to create tension before writing a persuasive leafelt about Whitby and their own ending.

Wider curriculum

This term, the children will revise the three states of matter and properties of materials. They will then be introduced to further properties: solubility and thermal conductivity.  Children will then look at separating materials using a range of methods and understand that some changes are irreversible. They will then discuss the formation of new materials.

Geography: Would you rather live in North or South America? In this topic, the children will find out about the continents of North and South America, and the countries that form them. They will also look at the landscape and climate of some of the contrasting regions of the Americas and compare these with our own.

Why were we victorious at the Battle of Britain?

During this topic, the   children will study the main events of World War II and then focus on what was the Battle of Britain, how was the battle won and why Great Britain were victorious during the battle.

Additional Messages:

Please make sure that you read for at least 10 minutes everyday.  This can be your school book, own book, newspapers, comics, shopping list etc and record in your planner.

Spellings will focus on either a particular spelling rule/pattern or will be taken from the statutory word list and will be taught and practised throughout the week. Tests will take place each Thursdays over Spellign Frame and new lists posted on Google Classroom.

The children will have PE on a Thursday this term and need to come to school wearign their kit - a coloured t-shirt in their house colours and black shorts/joggers/leggings - they can bring a plain black hoodie too if they wish as we are hoping to be outdoors as much as possible.

Homework will be set on a Thursday and this should be returned by the following Thursday.  Homework will consist of a Maths activity and an English activity linked to the unit of work we are covering in class, so they should be able to complete the activity independently.
