new year

Happy New Year to you all!

Many thanks for the lovely presents and cards you gave me for Christmas, your generosity is very much appreciated.  I hope you all had a restful Christmas and managed to spend some time with family and loved ones. 

I hope you are ready for a busy Spring term!

On this page, you will find some useful information about the term ahead and any key messages that you need to be aware of.  If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see our class Twitter feed and link to Google Classroom. 

We are set to have a great year and have some really exciting things planned and lots of new things to learn about.

Welcome letter...


The children will develop their maths skills following the White Rose Maths. They will improve their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages alongside consolidating their understanding of position and direction, shape and measurement.



This term, the children will use some fabulous books as a stimulus to engage and inspire their writing.  We will begin by looking at Shackleton's Journey - a book all about Ernest Shackleton's expedition to the Antarctic in the ewarly 19th century. After studying it closely ,we will be selecting appropriate vocabulary to write various pieces genres of writing including persuasive letters, non-chronological reports, diaries and TV documentary voice overs - selecting relevant sentence structures and grammar to suit the purpose and audience and engage the reader.



Why Is The Amazon So Important? 

Children will explore the geography of the rainforests. They will explore where the Amazon Rainforests is located in the world, what the different layers of the rainforest are like and who lives in rainforests.  They will also look at the direct impact the Amazon has as well as the wider effects in the world.

Children will explore the structure of the heart and lungs; looking at the double circulation system and all about blood! They will then investigate why exercise is good for us and what can harm the heart and lungs. 

Children will then learn about light, how we see, shadows, reflection and refraction. The children will explore how light travels and how this enables us to see objects.  They will then carry out some fascinating experiments testing reflection and refraction.  




What Was Life Like in Ancient Egypt?

Children will learn in depth about the achievements of this ancient civilisation. They will learn about how and where the ancient Egyptians lived, what was important to the daily lives of ancient Egyptians. The children will also learn about how Egyptian people used hieroglyphs to communicate and compare the powers of different gods.

Additional Messages:


Please make sure that you read for at least 10 minutes everyday.  This can be your school book, own book, newspapers, comics, shopping list etc and record in your planner.


 Spellings will focus on either a particular spelling rule/pattern or will be taken from the statutory word list and will be taught and practised throughout the week. Tests will take place each Fridays over Spelling Frame and new lists posted on Google Classroom. 


The children will have PE on Mondays ( Indoors) and Thursdays ( Outdoors)  this term and need to come to school wearign their kit - a coloured t-shirt in their house colours and black shorts/joggers/leggings - they can bring a plain black hoodie too to ensure they are warm enough as we will go out whenever we can safely. Please remember to tie long hair up and make sure no jewellery is worn.


Homework will be set on a Thursday and this should be returned by the following Thursday.  Homework will consist of a Maths activity and an English activity linked to the unit of work we are covering in class, so they should be able to complete the activity independently.
